WOW Tournament 17 March 2019

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!

It was a particularly early start for the competition at Newark, hosted by WOW, on Sunday 17th March 2019 and we were excited (if a little nervous) about what the day had in store!

Unfortunately things didn’t go quite to plan for TimeFlyZ (Deena, Nera, Mango, Phaze and Switch). In the first of their 6 races the distraction of the other lane proved too much for Mango, Switch decided against any attempt on the box, and a collision (dog v human) left us concerned that Nera may have sustained an injury. As a result, we had no choice but to go NFC for the remainder of the competition.

Deena and Phaze put in some great performances with good box turns and strong, clean runs. Switch didn’t run beyond race 2 as she still wasn’t happy on the box and we were unsure whether she had a slight injury or a crisis of confidence following on from a challenging training session earlier in the week; either way we didn’t want to push her. Mango managed to stay in her lane (with a lot of work from the team) and had some good box turns and fast returns, but a minor nail injury meant that she was taken out for the final race. By race 6 we were down to just 2 dogs, which wasn’t quite the way we expected their open debut to go!

We obviously have some specific things to work on before the next competition but Switch and Nera have seen Tracy from Cambridgeshire Canine Massage since the race and thankfully both are injury free.

TimeOut (Bella, Roxy, Glimmer, Hartley, Willow and Wibble) had just 4 races throughout the day. All 6 dogs did themselves and their handlers proud! Bella and Roxy had some great starts, Willow demonstrated yet another record turnaround for a re-run, and there were good passes, strong box turns and clean runs from all of the dogs. Their focus and consistency paid off, securing another division win for the team!

We’ve got lots to focus on in training before the next competition in May; hopefully we’ll be able to nail any current issues to achieve more positive results for both teams next time!

Thanks as always to Green Pantry, Cambridgeshire Canine Massage and Seraquin for supporting TimeFlyZ.
